1. Me too, I'm staff so not eligible for the competition :( However, even though Robert's done so much great stuff, for me, the best was the very surreal Nightingales!

2. I know I am an insider but I have had a sneak preview of the Robert Lindsay Biography and I was stunned by the amount he has done. I remember him from Citizen Smith (showing my age!!) and some of his more recent TV stints - I liked Hornblower - my family is okay but since Kris Marshall bailed to sell BT to us all it was never the same for me.

For the pictures (over 60 odd) and the anecdotes behind them I really recommend this. I great Xmas gift for the older generation.

3. I became a fan of Robert when I accidentally watched "my family". Since then there is no week when I don´t laugh about his jokes and funny faces in his role as Ben Harper. I try to get all my family and friends to watch it whenever it is on tv. And fortunately as of today I haven´t met one person who doesn´t think that Robert Lindsay is hilarious.

4. Robert is such a great actor, he steals every scene he is in. He and Zoe Wanamaker make My Family watchable. I cannot wait for this book.

6. Favourite Robert Lindsay moment was when he appeared on Parkinson and did an impromptu song and dance act. I love all his work and can't wait to receive my autographed copy.

8. My favourite Robert Lindsay role is as Carter in one of my all time favourite sitcoms Nightingales. The opening episode of the series went out the day I was born 27th February 1990. My favourite moment was in Extras when Robert appeared as a egoistical version of himself. The man is a inspiration to me as I am an actor too.

9. As a great admirer of the Hornblower television series my favourite Robert role is Captain/Admiral Pellew but DI Michael Jericho is a close second.

10. Picking a favourite role is a tough choice, but I think i have to go with Sir Edward Pellew in Hornblower, followed very closely by Michael Murray in GBH and Jamie Diadoni in Jake's Progress. Honourable mention to Nighingales. I've also had the privilege of seeing Robert on stage in Power and The Entertainer, which were just magical evenings.

Thank you, Robert, for all the hours of entertainment. I can hardly wait to read your book.

Cheers

11. Far too many great moments on TV to list but for me the best moment was when, as a rather keen teenager, I received a signed photo of Robert... my heart almost burst!

13. It is hard to choose a favourite and unfortunately I have never had the chance to see Mr Lindsay live on stage, however I still find My Family hilarious and it will always be on my top 5 series hit list.

One performance though I would like to point out is his portrayal of Tony Blair - an absolute superb acting on a man whose feelings we can only guess.

Robert Lindsay - an institution on British stages and TVs. Great work!

14. How can I possibly choose a favourite moment as they are all good! I would have to say when I'm having a bad day, I pop in a taped video of Robert at the Tony's performing "The Lambeth Walk."
After all, once you get down Lambeth way, every evening, every day...you'll find yourself doing the Lambeth Walk! Cheers me up everytime! Never was a Tony Award so rightfully given. Also, Steve Bloomer's Watching....Go Derby!!

15. Robert is the best actor, very versatile. can turn his hand to almost anything. was a big fan of his from his Me And My Girl days, and Citizen Smith and i went on to see his opening night on broadway of Me And My Girl, a fantastic experience. can't wait to read the book. good luck robert in everything you do

16. I have been a great
fan of Robert since the very first episode of "Citizen Smith" and have followed his career from one success to another. It is very difficult to pick a favourite character as I have loved every one of them but I think that one of the best was "Sir Edward from Hornblower."

Posted by Susan Harding on 8th September 2009

17. Not a very original choice I know but Ben Harper is definetly my favourite Robert Lindsay role. He makes the series and has me in stitches.

18. I love Robert Lindsay in all the different roles that he played, from Citizen Smith to Ben Harper to Tony Blair. Mr Lindsay is my favorite actor of all time. I nearly cried when I received his autograph by post. :D My dream is to meet him in England, 5 minutes are enough. It would be on of the best moments of my life for sure. I can't wait for the book to come out . I will definetly buy this when it comes out.

19. I also remember Robert appearing in the Good Life as some sort of student activist for getting back to the earth. It was in 1977 and called 'Our Speaker Today'. That shows how old I am!!!

20. i love robert in everything hes done. i remember citizen smith with great fondness being the first thing i saw him. my fave has to ben harper in my family. hornblower a close second. hes sexy for his age too. can't wait to read the book.

22. I first saw Robert in "A Midsummer's Night Dream" and then not again until "Hornblower". He was not terribly well known here in the US so not much exposure, particularly on film. I am now a huge fan and have so enjoyed him in many different roles. I look forward to reading this book.

23. Robert's role as Capt. Pellew in the first Hornblower series was my absolute favourite. The scene with Horatio when Pellew teaches him what real leadership is, what a true captain does, was brilliant.

25. i am looking forward to reading the book about roberts life and how he started acting. i am a big fan of his especially him in my family and citizen smith which i started watching recently i found it very funny.

26. Hands down, it's Burt Rigby in "Burt Rigby, You're a Fool." Just to watch him doing his Buster Keaton impression is fantastic, but when he launches into his Charlie Chaplin routine (with a bloody nose!) it's comic genius. But then, everything Mr. Lindsay does is genius!

27. Favorite moment...hmm where to start. I live in the US, and unfortunately (or fortunately for him) Mr. Lindsay is not a well known actor over here. I first saw him several years ago in Hornblower, and was immediately impressed!! Since then, I watched much of his other work, and I must say he has quickly become one of my favorite actors. What I like most, is his versatility as an actor, his believablity in his various roles. It is my biggest regret that I have never been able to see him on stage....what an experience that must be. Thanks you for numerous hours of entertainment!!

28. I have been a fan of Robert Lindsay for many years now and cannot wait to read the book especially as I work in Ilkeston, his home town. It is great that he still comes to Ilkeston often and has not forgotten his roots.

29. Citizen Smith was a favourite of mine as I was the same age in the 70's as the younger characters - it was great fun to watch as it is now, especially to see the fashions and furnishings in tghe home. Things were a lot more simple then. I lived not far from Tooting and every time we were there we half expected to see Wolfie in his (tight) jeans!!!!

30. I thought Robert was outstanding as Michael Murray. He did a fabulous job as portraying a very screwed up character. Then he showed us the caring but stern Pellew in Hornblower. I loved Bert Rigby too - he can dance, sing and act...and perform magic tricks. I didn't recognise him at first as Fagin in Oliver Twist. From one extreme to another he keeps me enthralled. I am looking forward to reading his biography to get some insight as to how he can bring all these different characters to life

31. I was very lucky to meet "bob" at the Royal Exchange Manchester over 27 years ago! in Beaux Stratagem he very kindly signed my Program afterwards I was star struck he was very nice to speak too. Now my daughter loves to watch him in My Family so we have two fans in our household now! may it continue.

34. First of all I appologise for my English which might be a little, well, bumpy.
I found My Family switching channels, absolutely bored by all that stupid stuff on TV.And I immediately got stuck with that great TV series. The whole cast is absolutely wonderful,Zoe Wanamaker and Robert Lindsay obviously had a lot of fun working together...While my husband rushed to the book shop to buy all the Tom Clancy books he could get his hands on,I was out for some Susan-Harper-style handbags and clothes...and the hairstyle, too ;-)
