(Business) Brain Training

Somebody (nobody knows who) said that intelligence is knowing what to do when you don’t know what to do!

Some other bright spark said that this was leadership!

It is fairly obvious then that we should be making sure that we can make sensible decisions when called upon to do so, even in circumstances where the right sort of action is not clear-cut.

We need the right (or perhaps I should say, left) sort of brain training to help us to do this.

The two people who have helped me most in this area are Barrie Pearson and John Adair.

Barrie Pearson’s common sense views on financial management, profit improvement and strategic thinking certainly get managers thinking in the right way to deal with whatever gets thrown at them. See his book Exit Right to pep up your own management performance.

John Adair is full of calm advice on how to approach problems and find the way ahead. His thinking is so clear that it is catching and The Best of John Adair is packed full of ways to help you to know what to do even when you don’t know what to do.

Sometimes intelligence is knowing where to look for inspirational ideas to guide you to know what to do.
